Thanks!!!

(Since Michael says he is not able to read any comments due to some unknown technical problem...)
Thanks Juliane and Nuno, my birthday's on 17th of February and this week's my birthday week!
Went to several celebration meals with friends (will post the photos later!!!)
And Happy birthday to Michael, too! Wish you also had a good time and a rewarding 27th(?) year of your life.
On the day of my birthday, I finally finished reading the thick now-very-popular novel "Da Vinchi Code".
A challenge to the firm religious belife of most western people. I'm not in any religion, so the reading's really fun, but the ending's just to quick and rough, which is the only thing I cannot accept.

Speaking of Chinese New Year, nice photos, Nuno. Really was very Chinese-New-Year!
Hope you enjoyed the atmosphere.
Next week (23rd of Feb) will be the Chinese Latern Festival, considered to be the official end of CNY.
Have a great time then!

Linda
(ready to plan the trip in summer, yeah!!!)

Hi Linda

I also read DaVinci Code recently, and I also think it was quite interesting. As you know I have a Roman Catholic background and for that reason I'm quite aware of most of the cultural references in the book. The issue of secret societies like Opus Dei or Masonry is quite relevant nowadays since several MP's and Government ministers in Portugal as well as in Britain belong to them. These obvious have some kind of unclear power that common people are not very aware of.

Other interesting thing about the book is te central place Art has on the story, and the hidden secrets famous artists encode on their masterpieces. I suppose many of the book interpretations are correct, and the author must have reserached a lot in history of art and symbology fields - the guy has surely contact with academic experts in these fields and used his writing skils to present this academic knowledge to wider audiences.

I just finished his other book, Angels and Demons, which is very similar to DaVinci code. Also centered in Roman Catholic religion, but placed in Switzerland and Rome, while DaVinci Code was placed in Paris and London (by the way I visited recently some of the places described in the book, likethe Temple church).

Overall I liked the books, much more for the info it provided (some of which I had no knowledge about) than for the romantic/thriller/detective story. I also agree the ending was rough and a bit poor, but believe me that the ending of the other book is much worse! Dan Brown must improve his story endings :)

Cheers

Nuno

Seems the book is really popular around the world. Since it's thick and I wanted to read it quick, I picked the Chinese translation to read. (but didn't decrease the quality of the origin a bit)

I saw the painting of Da Vinci "the last supper" once in Milano and bought a postcard of it. It's true that the person sat to the right of Jesus Christ is a female (believed by the secret society to be his wife and bore his child) and the symbolic indication of them two suggested by the author is true. That's really a discovery since we never notice this.

I am also fascinated by the information given by the writer rather than the detective/thriller/romance parts (but we must agree those are the necessary composition of a novel, otherwise it could end up just like some academic book). One thing I am doubtful about is that the author pointed out Walt Disney is member of the secret society and that his animations are all produced for worships of Goddness. (a bit too much for me)But as a whole, I admit the author really is scholarly but I won't read his other book you mention. ^^

Cool that you visit the Temple Church in London. I was thinking of visiting the place in summer. How's it?

Don't say so Yasu, you don't even know when my birthday is, how can you forget it, right?
Since now you know the date, there's no excuse anymore that you forget about it in the future!!!
