In Russia. It was very interesting!
The tractor picture is in the gardens of the summer palace of Catherine the great (the place is called "Peterhof"), the food picture is from a Georgian (Georgia is an ex-soviet republic in the Caucasus, north of Irak) restaurant in Moscow.
Is it true that 'everythings tastes better' in Russia? That's at least what a Russian and an Armenian friend of mine told me. I wouldn't have thought so! They said, especially the fruits and veggies. But I have to say the food I tasted at the Armenian friend's place so far wasn't bad at all!! ;-)

St Petersburg. It's pretty but it is still not convincing... I'm dreaming "TRUE" Venice.
I'm thinking of next trip to Italy. Another language study and vacation. It's been too long since I enjoyed the country.
Juliane, I suspect your friend just likes Russia a lot. Great fruit and veg in Russia??? Hmm... I believe more in the quality of food in the former republics like Georgia, Armenia and son - it's a bit more south, there the ingredients are more tasty and they know how to make very good use of aromatic herbs. Georgian fod seems to be particularly famous in Russia, and I had a colleague that went there and claimed to have one of the best meals in his life in a restaurant there.
I'll try to write bit more about Russian trip. As usual Yasu is a bit right, st Petersburg is great but it really looks like an italian city. The architects paid by the czars were mostly italian and the city indeed has a lot of canals with respective boats. Anyway the palaces are quite special there, everything is grand and hermitage museum is great (despite the very visible corruption schemes there). Moscow is more tipically Russian. Everything is quite different there, it's half european half oriental place.
By the way guys, I think you should keep part of your next summer vacations open, maybe you should come to Portugal...
I haven't met any friends from those regions so far and Russia is so far a country of mysterious color to me. Would like to know more about it ^_^
I actually have a rough plan to go to Europe again (Austria and Czech) next summer. Will also be great to expand the route to the south. Anything fun in Portugal then? A wedding? ^_____^

Could you do me a favor. Please do not arrange the celemony on the date when the Portugal National Team will play - It can be very hard decision to make....for me. I have to think hard whether I should go to the church or the stadium...
Thanks Nuno for your comments on the taste of Russian food. Yes, the Armenian food (as far as I got to know it) is very delicous. But I originally cited my Russian friend talking about her recent stay in Moscow! It's alsways nice to hear a more independent opinion. ;-)
About next summer: I'm already thinking for so long to go to Portugal. And by then the PhD should also be submitted and almost forgotten. Looking forward to that! And to visit Portugal and celebrate with you!!
But I have to say that almost ALL my friends seem to have decided to marry this or next year. I'll even be in a couple of weeks witness for the 3rd time this year. So far, I only know the 12th of May and the 4th of August, but 2-4 other celebrations will take place next year, too. Without counting yours. And I thought this year with 5 weddings was already extreme! If you want to invite us (I know how expensive it is to make these big parties!), I'd love to come!! But please let us know the date as soon as you'll know it. Thanks!
