Having fun in Germany

Everyone at the Northterrace 19, I have some news to tell you. I am planning my next coming vacation. I have just booked flights from Fukuoka to Frankfurt (July 6 to July 16).
I was planning to take another Spanish course in Spain at first. But a Spanish friend of mine called Isaac told me that he will stay in Germany for job training in Munchen for one year. Ultimately, I have decided to visit him there to enjoy some World Cup atmosphere and practise Spanish.
I will be in Germany from 6 July to 16 July. But my plan is flexible. I will visit Isaac in Munchen before the Final. I may travel around by train. I think that Brussel is still reachable from Frankfurt. Do you have any particular plan in this period, Nuno?
Julian, I suppose that you are working on your PhD thesis during this period in Newcastle. Please advise some tips to enjoy in Germany. Do you know any grocery store in Germany which collects very high quality, an English equivalent to Waitrose or Mark 6 Spencer. And Shopping spots like a large department store.

Yasu, I envy you so much. I hope I can travel as much as you do someday in the future.
Tell us more fun stories about Germany or Belgium when you get back.
Hopefully, I will go to Japan again next spring or summer :-)

Linda,
Travelling to Europe is part of my therapy. In other words, it is very necessary. Yes, thank you, I will definitely enjoy a trip there.(It was difficult to leave out Spain and Italy for my destination this time. Maybe next time...)
I may visit you in Taiwan in near future. I will welcome you to Japan. Hummm.. anything interesting to see in Fukuoka???? very difficult question....

Nuno, I will stay in Munchen in the first several days. Probably I will come around 13th before leaving from Frankfurt...I will keep in touch with you.
I will talked to you about football via email. I am very disappointed right now to talk about it.........

Dear Yasu,

to be honest, I was already surprised that none of you is planning to come to Germany for the footbal World Cup. You're almost right - I'm flying at the 11th to Newastle and will be there for 3 weeks. You're welcome to visit Hamburg before the 11th if you manage to be that quick. I'm working Friday and Monday, and unfortunately booked a seminar for Saturday. So my only free day is Sunday. But obviuosly you could stay here! I'm sorry that I can't say that I'll take the days off. As I'm working free lance and will take off the entire summer school holidays to work on the PhD and then again November and December I'll need the money - not to mention that the clients aren't happy at all that no therapy will take place for such a long time. Although Hamburg is really at the other end of Germany, it's definetly worth a visit. On the other end, you also want to go to Brussel and the south of Germany is also very beautiful. Although, I'd love to meet you and can recommend Hamburg - the MOST BEAUTIFUL city in Germany!! - very much, I would rather stay in the south in your case, maybe undertake some nice walks in the Alps, visit other cities in the south, meet Nuno, ... than traveling all the time during your 10 days. That's not a long time... But by the way, why do you have so much time to travel, to write these long, long contributions to our blogg (THANK YOU for doing that!!), ...? What exactly are you doing at the moment? You must be earning not too bad, actually!
A grocery comparable to M&S etc. is difficult to say. That differ's a little bit from region to region. Normally, the big department stores (Karstadt, Alsterhaus) have very good food departments. But not necessary only regional products but rather multicultural. I guess that's not what you're really interested in. Here in Hamburg, I could recommend the farmer's markets (take place several times a week in different places) - some of them only organic. I'm sure, Munich also has them. There, you can find a wide range of good and often regional food. If you want, I could aks a friend who lives in Munich. For a fwe years you also can find proper organic supermarkets (in canotrast to the little shops we have for a long time). But they are usually smaller and often don't have counters with fresh meet and cheese.

I hope this was of help! Wishing you a great time (and hoping that you weren't right with your prognosis about out football team!),
Juliane

Sorry Yasu - forget the department store 'Alsterhaus'! That's nonsense - it's one in Hamburg. I wanted to suggest Karstadt or Kaufhof.

Julian, thanks for writing some long message. I believe I can find some nice organic grocery stores in Munich or enjoy shopping at the department stores you recommended. I will definitely bring back organic musli.

I checked some tourist guide on Humburg. It sounds a very nice city. But I am sorry to say that I may not be able to travel this far. I chose Munchen because my Newcastle friend (a Spanish)told me that we will not be in Spain but in Germany while I was thinking of doing other Spanish study. Anyway, traveling is my life and Europe is paradise for me. I will definitely come back again. I will write again a long essay on our blog.

P.S. I do not earn very much but I still have some savings which I had made before coming to Newcastle.

Yasu, the name of the chain of organic supermarkets here in the north is 'Erdkorn'. Maybe, you can find them with a wide range of organic food as well in Munich. You will find organic musli almost anywhere. I guess almost any supermarket has some, and if you want to have a bigger choice, a 'bioladen' (organic shop) will be a good option - normally private little shops you can find easiliy

P.S. Nuno said he will look for a ticket at the stadium to watch one of the Portuguese game. I wish I would live such close...

When I was watching the opening ceremony of world cup on TV, I was hoping that maybe the camera would take Yasu for a second. The atmosphere must be so great. Pity that I saw Australia beat Japan yesterday, but you support other teams anyway :P
Yasu, can you send me a postcard of world cup or German from Germany? Thanks :-)

Ok. Linda, I will send you a post card from Germany. Yes, unfortunately, Japan will not go to the next stage. But it was possible anyway. We have to improve performance in next 4 years.
